What's hot

How heat works

The AI debate as lights at night. Every light is a quote, every cluster a theme. The brighter it glows, the more is being said about it right now.

56 hot themes in the AI debate around the world

What makes a theme hot?Six signals, all about now
  • Quotes: how many there are
  • Reach: how many of the site's topics they touch
  • Voices: how many different people speak, and from how many roles
  • Recency: how much of it falls in the last 90 days
  • Momentum: whether the last 30 days beat the two months before
  • Replies: how often the voices answer each other
  • Hot: the top fifth of active themes

  • Spin the sphere: it turns by itself, drag to turn it, scroll or pinch to zoom in on a theme
  • Click a hot spot: fly in and see its quotes, linked where voices answer each other
  • Click a light: the quote, who said it, when and where
  • List: every theme ranked by heat, hottest first
Where do the themes come from? From the quotes, not from a list
  • Grown from the quotes: Claude, an AI by Anthropic, gives every quote one to three labels in its own words; labels that many quotes share become the themes
  • Themes are not topics: the topics are the site's #tags that sort the archive; a theme is a strand of the debate and usually touches several topics
  • Only with weight: a theme needs at least 15 quotes from 8 voices, spread over 3 topics
  • Counted by code: the heat itself is arithmetic, no opinion involved
